An attempt at mooncakes was made!
For the Holiday square on my
guardianbingo card I somehow got it into my head to make mooncakes? I thought it might be fun! (It was.) I thought it's basically dough and a filling, I can do dough and a filling! (Hubris.)
Anyway, here's the result:

The dough was made with honey instead of golden syrup, which according to the internet makes them lighter in color, so that wasn't me underbaking them. *ahem* The filling is primarily nuts and honey, with a generous helping of orange peel powder and a small chunk of candied ginger in the center, to symbolize "the sweet, the sour, the spicy, and astringent." 😌
They look, of course, nothing like actual mooncakes, which will become even more apparent when I show you the recipe I used. But I tried my best and learned a few things!
There'll be a separate post with some progress pics and Problems I Ran Into 🙃, but for now that's one more square done! (Edit: behind the scenes) And they're actually quite edible, so hey.
