Zhang Kangle's upcoming projects

» 锦月如歌 | Legend of the Female General (Chu Zhao)
Extremely confused by this one. It should come out soon, having racked up 1.5 million reservations~ on Weibo, and it should feature my boy in a substantial support role. They wrapped filming in March of 2024, so it should really drop any day now.
However, the trailer that was released LAST OCTOBER (awesome battle scenes, intrigue, people in dirty armor) seems to be for a completely different drama than whatever this thing was advertising in May (generic romance, lanterns, kissies). Also, my boy is featured in neither. Not even for a second! Only Bai Shu shows up several times?
Having just watched The Double and Story of Kunning Palace back to back, I don't think I can watch another drama where a pretty girl does up her hair in a bun and is thus """disguised as a man""", and also romance occurs. Mostly because the male lead really isn't doing it for me. Otherwise I'd be much more excited about this. We'll see.
» 十万狂花入梦来 | Blossom in Darkness (Yu Wenhao)
Haven't seen this mentioned anywhere in months. Apparently filming started last July and ended in November, and a trailer dropped the same month. The official Weibo has mostly been making Happy Birthday posts and asking people to make reservations, but since they haven't posted a big milestone yet, maybe that's not going so great.
Not sure I find this cast very compelling (why is Bai Shu in everything???) but obiously I'd watch this for my boy. I mean, look at him.
» 冰湖重生 | Rebirth (Yan Xun)
Started filming in December, trailer came out in March, everyone got all dressed up for a big flashy promo event the same month. PROMISING, RIGHT?
Anyway, this one is doomed. The lead actress had some kind of family scandal and is now pretty much cancelled, through no fault of her own as far as I can tell. I don't really want to look into it too closely because c-ent is so depressing sometimes and she was such a sweetheart in Sleuth. But yeah, this whole thing is now in limbo until she's somehow magically uncancelled or they use AI to replace her face or something equally ghoulish. (SHE WAS THE LEAD ACTRESS.)
There was an iQIYI event last week in which a ton of online promo for upcoming dramas happened, and Rebirth was among them (sans lead actress). So maybe it'll air at some point, but see above re: ghoulishness. Unless they can sort out the scandal, I'm not sure the drama drop will be cause for big smiles. (And I might never see my boy do this in character. 😢)
» 四十七 | The Awakening (47)
This one just started filming in June (but it's only going to be 16 episodes when done) and I'm very excited about it. As I said elsewhere, it apparently combines fantasy/supernatural elements with themes of "identity, justice, and revenge," so in my mind it's like The Man from Nowhere (2010) with werewolves. WHICH WOULD BE AMAZING. But there probably won't be werewolves.
There's also a drama called The Dauntless Youths (朝歌少年行) in his MDL credits, but I don't think that's ever going to see the light of day. And that's it!
He's been so busy since Tibetan Sea Flower, I don't even know if there was a whole week of rest somewhere in there. 😔 Also, looking at this, it's pretty amazing to me that some of these productions with a proper budget and popular leads are still waiting for a license or whatever, but a gay little family drama with no budget and a cast of unknowns went from shooting to airing in like eight months. And even made it through censorship somewhat intact, until Youku got out the scissors. Look at it go. 🥹
