Fanmix: Pull Apart the Dark

I took quite a long break from fiddling with this, returned to put together the second half in a way that made me very emotional (HE LIT UP THE WHOLE SKY! NEVER OVER IT!) and then... just... could not get the first half to work.

I eventually removed a song from consideration that I really liked but that just didn't quite work for Zhao Yunlan (Ledges by Noah Gundersen, if anyone's interested), moved a few other tracks around, and finally had SOMETHING.

It's pleasingly different from its Shen Wei counterpart, I think, with a more modern-ish rock/pop vibe, and then towards the end it's like, AND NOW WE HAVE THE FEELINGS. That Sleeping at Last track is just so perfect for Zhao Yunlan.

(Apparently, this is also my 20th fanmix on AO3! Neat! 🥳)

I love it when people include music that doesn't usually show up in fanvids and other fan-related stuff (like country and folk). They might not always be to my usual taste, but it's always a delight to hear something I wouldn't usually listen to.

The second song is so perfectly Zhao Yunlan I can't even. I love the second to last track and wish it was longer. The way the instrumentation builds to inspirational and soaring and returns to something more quietly hopeful. Lovely. 🧡

Oh gosh thank you so much!!! I barely even get kudos on the fanmixes, let alone comments, so everytime someone lets me know what they liked it's like Christmas and my birthday combined. So really, thank you! <3 And I'm glad the song selection worked for you; I love getting to know new music and artists through fanvids, and putting artists I really like on fanmixes and introducing others to them is definitely a nice perk.

I love fanmixes! Any themed playlist makes me happy, really. And listening to others always exposes me to new stuff that I can put in mine, so win/win! no_detective has some great Spotify playlists, too, as does bonibaru if you don't already follow them.
