Funny story! I have not watched a single minute of The Rebel (and I don't intend to; I like to watch happy stuff) and until he starred in a drama together with Zhu Yilong and clearly fell in love with him, I had never heard of Wang Yang.

So I wrote porn about them! Doing The Rebel things! \o/

This started out as a conversation with yantantether about this particular gif and then snowballed into a whole thing about Z1L and WY being very srs actors developing their characters together. *ahem* Anyway, cannot write fic about Z1L without making him a sweet sub with a praise kink, I GUESS. He's also still Bai Yu's boyfriend in this one. They're grossly in love.

(This isn't the first WY/Z1L fic on the AO3--there are a handful of Chinese ones under a different tag--but it's the first one in English. Feeling a bit proud of myself, can't lie!)

The Rebel and I are on a break because it's just too sad and grim (I wasn't planning to watch it in the first place but Z1L's face and a great ensemble cast turned out to be too much for me to resist) - much as it's definitely one of the better things Z1L has starred in, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who likes to watch happy stuff, nope 😅

Also, yes, that particular gif is quite something. I say, definitely not having watched that on repeat a few times.

I watched the trailer when it came out and that one torture-related scene just completely traumatized me. I get unpleasant flashbacks when I just see gifs or stills of it. So, no, never touching this show, not even for Z1L's (INCREDIBLY DISTRAUGHT) face! 🙈 I am happy that Z1L is finally getting the kind of high-quality projects he deserves, but also, JUST GIVE US A NICE ROMCOM LONG-GE WE AREN'T ASKING FOR MUCH.

(I swear I saw a slightly slowed-down and more saturated version of that gif before and I had zero context for it. 😅 I was just like, well, that looks very horny, wasn't he supposed to be a little spy baby?)
