DMBJ watch threads
Nov. 24th, 2024 03:57 pmAs mentioned before, I'm trying to import my DMBJ watch threads from Twitter before the whole place implodes, which is an entirely manual process and requires a LOT of copy-pasting. And fiddly formatting. And finding the gifs I used in the tweets and uploading them here. And etc. But I'd hate to see these go, so here we are.
For some reason I decided to start with Ultimate Note, which is the longest and most image-heavy, but on the upside, the rest shouldn't take as long? It's really mostly for myself, but if you're interested, here's the Ultimate Note thread.
Only 6 more to go! \o/

A few fannish updates
Oct. 13th, 2024 09:07 pmI wrote a Tibetan Sea Flower fic! And also Sand Sea fic, sort of, just due to the way they adapted Tibetan Sea Flower. As I said in my spoilery review, Zhang Luyi was just very, very good at pining and longing and yearning. It compelled me. When I brainstormed fic ideas with
lunarriviera, I said at some point that Wu Xie basically spent ten years falling in love with a ghost, after they parted as friends* and Wu Xie subsequently lost all his marbles.
(* "Parted" as in, one friend nerve-pinched the other into unconsciousness so he wouldn't make a scene, but you know. Who among us.)
So then I literally wrote that. (And sam helped me with all the Sand Sea lore. <3)
When I started writing, I thought that maybe it would be Zhu Yilong's Wu Xie in my head, or maybe Qin Hao, but then by the end it was just fully Zhang Luyi, going very quietly insane with love. That's how compelling he was. Dammit. (Although that scene in the shop was 100% Qin Hao. I could picture it quite clearly.)
I briefly considered signing up for Yuletide, which I haven't done since 2010, but then the thought of coming up with fandoms to request and details to put in a letter was too overwhelming. So I'm just gonna attempt some treats for the fandoms I was considering! Also looking forward to
fandomtrees to make some non-fic gifts, hopefully.
Lastly, Wang Yang is fully back from his self-imposed (?) radio silence after the big Magnolia Awards kerfuffle! I have lost all track of his event appearances and brand relationships (apparently he's hawking supplements with his Stand or Fall co-star now?), so here are just some recent-ish highlights:
- photoshoot for the Mid-Autumn Festival Gala where he sang a duet with someone
- photoshoot for TOD's (and a tiny little BTS clip)
- whatever this is ๐

I just finished watching this, so please have some very disorganized thoughts while it's all still fresh in my mind.
( Some negative stuff (mostly about casting), some positive stuff (mostly Pingxie and Xiaoge-related), some randomness. This got very long! Also, spoilers for the whole thing. )

I've received some amazing gifts over the past several months and I've been very bad about signalboosting them, so I will rectify that now. Look at these gems! <333

I have been quietly losing it over at Twitter, but there is SO MUCH HAPPENING HERE, it needs to be its own post.
Okay, so Huang Junjie is the co-lead in a dangai based on horror/mystery/BL web novel Kaleidoscope of Death by Xi Zixu. The drama is called The Spirealm and was available for streaming on iQIYI for about an hour on February 2nd. It just appeared out of nowhere and then immediately vanished again. Some people managed to download all 78 (20-minute) episodes while they could, and fans have been working on making subtitled copies available.
None of this is great for the people involved in the making of the dangai, who are missing out on any money they would have made from its distribution, but the fandom around it has been thriving.

Random Pingxie nonsense
Dec. 10th, 2023 06:55 pmme:
anyway, big ups to NPSS for creating a marty sue so beautiful, so charismatic, so kind, so unintentionally dangerous, and so committed to his family legacy that every woman wants him and none of them can ever have him
lunarriviera:
him already taken
me:
so incredibly taken
like a piece of cake xiaoge picked up and licked very slowly and then put back on the plate
lunarriviera:
okay that belongs in a fic
wu xie would think that
"i've been slowly licked"
"and then replaced. for a decade"
me:
omg for a DECADE
just a beautiful piece of cake, buttercream slowly melting into sad slush under the unforgiving sun that shines on the potluck of terrors that is wu xie's life

Fic Round-up, DMBJ Edition
Aug. 26th, 2023 07:59 pm» making anything last, keeping anything safe
๐ Reboot; Wu Xie/Bai Haotian, established Wu Xie/Xiaoge
๐ท๏ธ Post-Canon, Sex Pollen, Fuck Or Die, Consent Issues, First Time, Age Difference, Ambiguous Relationship
๐ 7750 words, rated M
Didn't expect my first fic in the fandom to be age difference het porn, and then didn't expect anyone to actually read it, but somehow it got way more comments than the Pingxie fics. Go figure! This fic took so many turns in my head before I settled on a premise and a "plot" and a vibe, and I really like where it ended up. I think Xiao Bai deserved a better ending than she got, so this is my version of self-indulgently shoving my tomb blorbo at the Iron Triangle and being like, "Here! Be nice to her! No, nicer!" :-D
» a winding path, an empty page, a silhouette
๐ Ultimate Note; Xiaoge/Wu Xie
๐ท๏ธ Amnesia, Post-Episode 15, Kissing
๐ 2500 words, rated T
» i think of loss and i can only think of you
๐ Ultimate Note; Xiaoge/Wu Xie
๐ท๏ธ Amnesia, Sharing a Bed, Episode Related, Episode 31
๐ 2600 words, rated M
The original idea for this was some kind of five times fic, starting at the stupid lake where they should have kissed and ending the night before Xiaoge and Pangzi leave for Banai, with escalating acts of intimacy to make the goodbye even WORSE.
I rewatched the relevant bits of Ultimate Note a lot, looking for a hook, and then just kind of filled in the gaps I saw. I thought writing Xiaoge POV would be pretty much impossible, but once I got a handle on his amnesia and his disinclination to speak, the words just kind of kept flowing. (Then the fic ended with a kiss, so I had to write a sequel to escalate things, clearly.)

Hi, hello!
Aug. 24th, 2023 11:45 amLong time no see, here's some current things:
DMBJ
The tomb franchise got me. ๐ Had to watch Reboot for the blorbo, of course, entirely convinced that I'd finish all 62 episodes and move on with my life. And then I had to go and watch Ultimate Note. And the Heihua movie. Currently halfway through The Lost Tomb 2 (2019) and deep in my Pingxie feelings. I'm mostly vibing with
lunarriviera and lurking a bit in the Discord server and doing my silly little Twitter watch threads. Fic has also happened and will be put in a separate post for neatness purposes.
In conclusion, stupid tomb franchise.
Obsessive fannish projects \o/
So, hey, remember when I made a whole seven-page document about Zhu Yilong's various photographers? Felt nice! Neat little research project! Pretty pictures! Data organization!
Anyway, then I signed up for an Airtable account on a whim and created a database to play around with the data and the pictures. That was two months ago and I'm currently up to 211 shoots (67 of Zhu Yilong; 68 of Bai Yu) and 52 photographers. Yes, work has been slow over the summer, but also I guess my brain has really been feeling like organizing things.
( Screenshots! )
There's a pared-down version to browse the shoots (with links to Weibo), for which you have to sign up for a free Airtable account. It currently looks like this:

Just let me know if you're interested and I'll DM you the link!

guardian_wishlist is happening! I'm definitely going to browse the lists and see if anything sparks a little idea to be turned into a little thing. Haven't written my own wishlist yet, but I can probably reuse most of the last one and add Wu Xie to its cast of Z1L characters. We'll see!
In unrelated news, Good Omens 2, Red, White & Royal Blue, the Barbie movie, and Dungeons & Dragons were all delightful in their own ways.
